April in Review and War Through the Generations Challenge Update

Another month just slipped away from me. I can't believe it's already May, but at least the warm weather is moving in. I was a reading machine last month, with 16 books completed! Granted, 4 of them were kids books, but this is a new record for me and I'm going with it. Adding these to the 10 I read in January, 8 in February, and 8 in March, I'm at 42 for the year and well on my way to hitting 100. And I'm amazed that I've kept with my one blog resolution -- reviewing all the books I finish.

Here's my list of April books with links to my reviews:

Coventry by Helen Humphreys [reviewed here]
Rodeo Rocky by Jenny Oldfield [reviewed here]
An Offer You Can't Refuse by Jill Mansell [reviewed here]
The Spare Wife by Alex Witchel [reviewed here]
Horrid Henry by Francesca Simon [reviewed here]
Horrid Henry Tricks the Tooth Fairy by Francesca Simon [reviewed here]
Horrid Henry and the Mega-Mean Time Machine by Francesca Simon [reviewed here]
Horrid Henry's Stinkbomb by Francesca Simon [reviewed here]
The Traitor's Wife by Susan Higginbotham [reviewed here]
Coraline
by Neil Gaiman [reviewed here]
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows [reviewed here]
Memory by Philippe Grimbert [reviewed here]
The Lost Hours by Karen White [reviewed here]
That Went Well by Terrell Harris Dougan [reviewed here]
Follow Me by Joanna Scott [reviewed here]
Tender Graces by Kathryn Magendie [reviewed here]

I'm hoping to keep up this pace in May. We'll see how it goes.

I thought this was a good time to see how I've been doing with the WWII reading challenge I'm co-hosting with Serena at War Through the Generations. Only 5 books are necessary to complete the challenge, but we encouraged participants to read more if they want. I didn't set a numerical goal, simply because I want to read as many as I can during the course of the year. I've completed 8 WWII-related books since January:

10 Days: Anne Frank by David Colbert [reviewed here]
Reading by Lightning by Joan Thomas [reviewed here]
The Holocaust: The Nazis Seize Power, 1933-1941 by Stuart A. Kallen [reviewed here]
Keeping Hannah Waiting by Dave Clarke [reviewed here]
An Obsolete Honor by Helena P. Schrader [reviewed here]
Coventry by Helen Humphreys [reviewed here]
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows [reviewed here]
Memory by Philippe Grimbert [reviewed here]

I have more than a dozen WWII books on my shelves right now, some I bought ages ago and some I've obtained just for the challenge. I hope to get to them all, or at least the shorter ones. If anyone knows of an absolute must-read WWII book, please let me know.

Happy reading!

Wow, that's excellent! You have a great list too. I read The Guernsey Literary... last year and loved it. I didn't think I would be so interested in WWII books but I've read a few good ones and will be reading more. I'll be using your list too. I really enjoyed Tallgrass by Sandra Dallas when I read it for a book club. It's about WWII and the effects of a Japanese internment camp on a small town in Colorado and the families in and near the camp. Don't know if you've read it but if not, you might want to check into it to see if you might be interested. Enjoy your week!

Bermudaonion: Thanks! It's been pretty easy since I have a lot of WWII books on my shelf that I'm just itching to read.

Serena: Thanks! I'm looking forward to seeing what books you choose for the challenge.

Kristi: Thanks! You still have a lot of time left to read for the challenge, so you don't have to worry.

Blodeuedd: Thanks! We'll be doing war-related reading challenges each year if you're interested. I can see how challenges can be addicting. If I wasn't so busy hosting this one, I'd probably sign up for a bunch of others.

StaciM: Thanks!

Dar: Thanks! I had no idea I'd read so many until I counted them. I surprised myself. Not sure if I'll be able to do it again, though. We'll see...

Nymeth: Thanks!

Marie: I'm really enjoying the challenge. I had no idea how many different types of books qualified until I started. I really need more than one year for WWII lol.

Isabel: I'm looking forward to you joining us next year!

jessica.marie: Thanks!

Toni: Thanks!

Wrighty: Thanks! I'll have to look into Tallgrass as I want to read more about the Pacific side of the war.
