Mailbox Monday -- August 31

I'm a bit exhausted from BBAW-related blog reading over the weekend, but I've found a few new blogs I'm going to start reading regularly (like I really need to add to the Google Reader subscriptions). So while I had trouble waking up this morning, The Girl was ecstatic because it's her first day of 4th grade. Boy, the time just flies by!!

Anyway, it's Mailbox Monday time again, and I only added 3 books to my shelves this week. I'm accepting very few review copies these days because I have enough books in my house already. (If you want to see what books other peeps bought, borrowed, or received in the mail, visit The Printed Page. And as always, a big thanks to Marcia for hosting.)

Here are my new books:

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

Serena managed to snag an ARC of this book, and since she's already pre-ordered a copy, she was nice enough to give it to me and my hubby. Thanks, Serena! I started it on the train this morning because I couldn't wait (and it's our book club's September selection), and now I can't wait for the work day to be over so I can pick up where I left off.

The Night Gardener by George Pelecanos

This book was sent to me by Drey. She kindly offered me her copy after I commented on her review. She made me curious about the creepy ending. Thanks, Drey!

Everything Sucks: Losing My Mind and Finding Myself in a High School Quest for Cool by Hannah Friedman

This is a review copy from the author. I'm really picky about memoirs, but this one sounded really interesting. We'll see.

What books did you welcome into your home recently?

I also have The Night Gardener! I haven't read it yet, but that creepy ending has me interested. I got email from Amazon that the hardcover of Catching Fire is on its way to my house!

My daughter has to wait until September 10th to start school. And she can't wait.
The books you have on for this week all look super interesting so I'll be waiting for reviews.

I have The Night Gardener but have not read it yet. I still have not read The Hunger Games...I can't seem to win/find a copy of it...So it will be a good while before I read Catching Fire.

Happy Reading!!

Congrats on not getting a boat load of books =)
I enjoy books that do not have the words "to review" attached to it.
My Mailbox is up at The Burton Review.

I also got Everything Sucks. But I am also the only one on the planet who doesn't have Catching Fire yet, so I have to remedy that!

I'm with you on the BBAW blog reading...thought my head was going to explode! It is an amazing experience though, and I'd do it all over again. There is a whole undiscovered blog world out there!

Night Gardener is really gritty and dark, and wonderful! I loved it!

I was a bit disturbed to see EW rate Catching Fire a "C". That isn't going to stop me though...I'm trying to get my hands on the audio!

Now you've got me struggling to remember the ending of The Night Gardener. For the life of me, I can't remember. It's been awhile since I read it though.

Enjoy your new books, Anna!

You got some great new book this week, Anna.

Happy first day of school to The Girl. I remember those days- laying out my clothes the night before because I wanted everything to go right. I couldn't wait to see friends I hadn't seen over the summer to compare tan lines and to see who was taller! :D

I actually got two great books recently. I bought "Japanese Country Cooking" with the gift card that Serena got me for my birthday. It's a book that I've wanted for a very long time and I'm so happy with it. It is more than a recipe book. It tells about the history of Japanese food.

The second book I got recently is called, "The Lazy Environmentalist On A Budget". A marketing person that represents the author contacted me through my blog and offered to send it to me. I'll be doing a review of it very soon. Giggle giggle...I feel like you and Serena now!

Talk to you very soon. Big hugs to you Anna!!

I really don't have any more room in my TBR-pile (what else is new?), but I think Catching Fire may have to make an appearance!
