In Hiding

There are some people out there who can read several books at once, but I'm a monogamist when it comes to reading. Well, unless there's a new Harry Potter book. (If there's someone who hasn't heard about it, I guess they're living under a rock. Even my 89-year-old grandmother knows about it!)

So, I've pushed aside my writing, The Lying Tongue, and my numerous knits in progress to finish the last installment in the series. I've gone into a hiding of sorts...limited my blog reading and forum participation so as not to learn the ending of the book before I've finished it.

I'm sure I'll have some comments on the book and the series itself, but I'll make sure to give a SPOILER ALERT for those who might not want to know before reading it for themselves or seeing the movie.

On the knitting front, I did not finish the Star Pillow, mostly because the hubby and I had a relaxing Friday evening to ourselves and enjoyed more relaxation on Sunday. Besides, there was so much fun with the various Pokemon gifts that I'm sure The Girl didn't even notice. I only have 2 more diamonds to knit (which will take about 30 minutes total) and then the pillow can be assembled. The Girl's actual birthday is tomorrow, and I bet she'll have it by then.

Happy reading, Potter fans! I'm torn between plowing through the pages to find out what happens and slowly savoring each one. Last night, on chapter four, I tried to savor, but there was so much excitement, I just let myself go with the flow. I read on Friday about a child psychiatrist telling parents to prepare their children for the deaths of some beloved characters. I have no one to prepare me............

LOL I for one will be happy to read a spoiler post you may place here. I have not read the books and cannot because it would break the all-encompassing rule I have about not reading books after having seen movies of the same books. I will be the movie fan only on this series.

Hurray for Harry Potter! Yes, I too am reading the 7th book. I've been eating it up (literally and mentally). I've read 13 chapters so far. I have some ideas of what I'm going to encounter further on in the book but I have no idea how J.K. is going to present them. I'm trying to prepare myself but I know that I'm still going to be surprised......... No one says that beloved characters have to live -- we've just come to expect it. I've often had a beef with most books (children's and adult's alike); they're too predictable and most always have a "happily ever after" ending. Real life isn't like that! Please don't think I'm giving anything away because I'm not. I'm just leaving my thought tracks. Enjoy!!

I have no illusions that the end of the book will be overly happy. The books have progressed in such a way that things have become darker, more ominous...and I don't see how they could've gone any other way and been this successful.

I am just beginning chapter six and loving every word!

Some people that I have talked to seem shocked when I mention that perhaps the book won't end too "nicely." I've heard people say, "She'd never do that!" I guess most people have the fairy tale ending engrained into their minds. Not that it's a bad thing, I suppose. Perhaps we'll chat more when we've both finished the book -- maybe we're ALL wrong!! :)

Possibly.

Serena and I were discussing that it's not unusual that a main character dies. Look at Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet. Also, in the Order of the Phoenix, Serena pointed out today that Harry mentions that the prophecy could mean that either he or Voldemort must die. So it's not like Rowling didn't set us up for it, if it happens.

We'll just have to wait and see at the end...

Quite true! We'll see!

So have you finished reading it, yet? I cried both times that I read it.

Yes, I finally finished it a couple of weeks ago. I didn't cry, but overall I enjoyed it. There were some things that bothered me, which I might blog about, but all in all, I was happy with the entire series.
