Giveaway: Frantic by Katherine Howell

from the author's website:

In one terrible moment, paramedic Sophie Phillips’ life is ripped apart – her police officer husband, Chris, is shot on their doorstep and their ten-month-old son, Lachlan, is abducted from his bed. Suspicion surrounds Chris as he is tainted with police corruption, but Sophie believes the attack is much more personal – and the perpetrator far more dangerous...

While Chris is in hospital and the police, led by Detective Ella Marconi, mobilise to find their colleague's child, Sophie's desperation compels her to search for Lachlan herself. She enlists her husband's partner, Angus Arendson, in the hunt for her son, but will the history they share prove harmful to Sophie's ability to complete her mission?

And could one dangerous decision cause Sophie to ultimately lose everything important in her life?

You can read my review of Frantic here.

I have a signed copy of Frantic for one lucky reader. I haven't read a whole lot of crime thrillers, so to enter this one, I want you to give me the title of a must-read crime thriller. And if you want your entry to count, please leave your email address. This giveaway is open internationally, but you must enter by midnight EST on Tuesday, Jan. 27.

ATTENTION EMERGENCY SERVICES WORKERS!!

Katherine Howell, author of Frantic, is a former ambulance officer. She emailed me to say she will send a free copy of Frantic to emergency service workers who send her an email with a photo of themselves in uniform in front of their vehicle or station, which she will post on her site. Click here for more information and look under the "NEWS" section.

Well, I would classify this more as a medical mystery/crime thriller, but I think Beat the Reaper is great. milou2ster(at)gmail.com

The Throat by Peter Straub is great. Its part mystery but still a thriller.

Of course theres always the Silence of the Lambs and other Hannibal stories by Thomas Harris.

Definitely "Lush Life" by Richard Price. It is a marvelous, gritty novel that brings the boiling pot of New York to life. Rated as the #4 top book of 2008 by Entertainment Weekly. rnawrot@cfl.rr.com

I admire EMS folk. They do hard jobs for not enough pay. And they sometimes see humanity at its worst.

anyway, I didn't come here to say any of that. I came here to say I read 24 Hours, by Greg Iles, just a few weeks ago. Holler if you want me to send it your way. A few points strain credibility, but it's a FUN ride.

(and, of course, no need to enter me)

Just finished Run For Your Life by James Patterson - it was great! J.D. Robb/Nora Roberts has a great series out there as well. Thanks for the entry:)

I'd love to win this book since you said it was better than the pattersons...

I have to say that my Favorite Crime thriller has been a Patterson book...Kiss The Girls was my absolute favorite other than Violets are Blue, which combines vampires and crime. :)

This sounds good! That's so generous of the author to give copies to rescue workers. They definitely deserve it. There have been some great books mentioned here. Anything by Harlan Coben is good too. Not all of them are part of a series so you can read them on their own. Thanks for your contest!

Ok, I'm already entered, but I have to second Wrighty's thought on Harlon Coban. I just read "Tell No One" and it was fabulous!

Okay if you are new to this type of read, check out Michael Connelly's books, he has a character that appears in each book...these are good mystery, cop, detective books. For thriller, check out Lisa Gardner, her most recent one about spiders really gave me the ebee geebees...she also follows her characters from book to book.
I love mysteries/thrillers!
Thanks so much for the giveaway!

I would say Patricia Cornwell's Body of Evidence, which I read years ago and desperately need to reread.

I hope I can enter even if I don't have a specific recommendation (I have't read many at all, either-because I never know what to start with)...but I have listened to a lot Patricia Cornwell books on our car trips--especially her Kay Scarpetta books and I've really enjoyed those (and they don't seem to have to go in order).

I would suggest any of Lee Child's Jack Reacher novels: The Killing Floor, Die Trying, Tripwire, Running Blind, Echo Burning, Without Fail, Persuader, The Enemy, One Shot, The Hard Way, Bad Luck and Trouble, Nothing to Loose, and Gone Tomorrow.

The Temperance Brennan series by Kathry Reichs are good ones as well as the Eve Duncan series by Iris Johansen.

The cover alone had me intrigued, I couldn't help staring at it...

Alright, every time I thought of a book or series to suggest, I would read the next comment and someone had beat me to it. One I loved that I couldn't put down was Tell No One by Harlan Coben.

Hi Anna,
Don't enter me. I just wanted to say I'm enjoying reading every one's suggestions about the "must-read" crime thrillers. That was a good idea to have every one do. I don't usually read this genre so I'm getting some good ideas on where to start :). I did enjoy your review of this book, tho. :)

Darlene said...

I'd love to enter for this one Anna (I bet you already knew that-lol). My favorite thrillers are Kay Hooper's Bishops trilogies. There's many titles to choose from so I can't really say one -I think I liked the Fear Trilogies the best so far. Thanks for the giveaway.

Sarah at SmallWorld said...

Yes, Anna, you can link to my review of The Guernsey...etc.!

Hmmm, a crime thriller...Honestly, I'm not sure I've read many! Capote's In Cold Blood, though, comes to mind. Not sure if that's exactly in the genre, but--wow.

I'm a huge true crime buff too. I liked the story of Lobster Boy & Undercover With Vampires In America Today by Katherine Ramsland.

Hmmm... have you read Chelsea Cain's Heartsick and Sweetheart yet? They're SO good!

I almost never read crime novels, and when I do, they focus mostly on forensics. My 2 favorite series are Kathy Reichs' Temperance Brennan books (these are the basis for the tv show "Bones," although the books are SO much better than the show) and Jeffrey Deaver's Lincoln Rhyme novels.

Frantic sounds great - I'd love to win it!

Oh, oh, oh!! I love anything at all with EMS folks in it. I don't read crime thrillers often, but I absolutely loved Baby Shark's High Plains Redemption.
