Mailbox Monday -- June 8 & June 15

Unfortunately it's Monday, and the weekend has ended. Life has been so crazy lately, and I feel so far behind. But on a bright note, it's time for another Mailbox Monday (hosted by Marcia from The Printed Page), where bookish folk talk about the books that entered their homes over the past week. (Click the picture to see everyone's lists.) I'm posting two weeks worth of books today because I missed last Monday.

I need new books like I need a hole in my head, yet The Girl and I accompanied Serena to the library sale in her town on Saturday. We got there just before it opened, and we were in and out in about 40 minutes. The Girl had a blast perusing the children's section on her own, and I was able to add to my collection of WWII books.

Here are the books I received for the June 8th mailbox:

Reading in the Dark by Seamus Deane (contest win from Fizzy Thoughts)

Gifts of War
by Mackenzie Ford (from Shelf Awareness)

A Match for Mary Bennet by Eucharista Ward (from Sourcebooks)

Rubber Side Down: The Biker Poet Anthology edited by Jose (Joe Go) Gouveia (contest win from Savvy Verse & Wit)

The Unit by Ninni Holmqvist (from Other Press LLC)

Dixie Divas
by Virginia Brown (a surprise ARC from Bell Bridge Books)

Only You by Deborah Grace Staley (a surprise ARC from Bell Bridge Books)

I received 2 books in the mail last week:

Mistress of the Sun
by Sandra Gulland (contest win from Linus's Blanket)

Hugh & Bess
by Susan Higginbotham (from Sourcebooks for an August tour)

Here's what I got at the library sale for a just $7.50:

To Kill the Devil: The Attempts on the Life of Adolf Hitler by Herbert Molloy Mason Jr.

Piercing the Reich: The Penetration of Nazi Germany by American Secret Agents During World War II by Joseph E. Persico

Motherland: Beyond the Holocaust: A Mother-Daughter Journey to Reclaim the Past by Fran Schumer Chapman

Forever by Pete Hamill

Obsessed
by Ted Dekker

Skin by Ted Dekker

And two old books for which I could not locate covers online:

Death's Head by Campbell Black

A Mortal Flower by Han Suyin

Here's what The Girl snagged at the library sale for just $3.25:

The Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke

The Chameleon Wore Chartreuse (A Chet Gecko Mystery) by Bruce Hale

The Ooze (Ghosts of Fear Street) by R.L. Stine

Stay Out of the Basement (Goosebumps) by R.L. Stine

Welcome to Dead House (Goosebumps) by R.L. Stine

Welcome to Camp Nightmare (Goosebumps) by R.L. Stine

Night in Werewolf Woods (Goosebumps)
by R.L. Stine

The Curse of Camp Cold Lake (Goosebumps) by R.L. Stine

Night of the Living Dummy III (Goosebumps)
by R.L. Stine

The Girl Who Cried Monster (Goosebumps) by R.L. Stine

You Can't Scare Me (Goosebumps) by R.L. Stine

You can see that The Girl cleared out the R.L. Stine books in just under 3.5 seconds! LOL I still haven't found homes for all these books, and my husband must be thrilled about the piles accumulating near the coffee table. I probably should sit out the July 11 library sale.

What books did you welcome into your home recently?

Yay for library sales! You found (and received) lots of good books in the last two weeks! I'm particularly looking forward to your review of The Unit. Happy reading! (Oh and tell me about feeling behind... Are you participating in Natasha's Blogiesta this weekend?)

I bought Reading in the Dark while in Ireland (a bookstore on the square in Donegal) several years ago. While I don't recall a lot about it (this was years before I began blogging), it's on my keeper shelf. So, I'll probably reread it at some point. I'll watch for a review :)

The Dekker books look interesting, as well as the one about the Holocaust. Lots of good ones! Happy reading!

I am so jelous. I want to read The Unit, but alas, already have 150 books in my TBR pile and hubby says no more till at least some of them are GONE!!

I know how you feel - I have stacks of books all over the place. It's organized chaos. I've told Carl and Vance to leave them alone because I know what each pile is for. You and The Girl got some great books!

Goodness. Fun week, eh?

My stacks of books have stacks of books. It's getting pretty crazy. I definitely sympathize.

Wow! You certainly got plenty of books this week huh? Nothing like a good ole' library sale. I have one coming up this Wednesday.
Your daughter sure loves Goosebumps, mine doesn't, I don't know why (she's a little scaredy cat though, lol)

Looks like you got a lot of books this week. I remember Goosebumps! I at one point, had all of them up to how many were out at the time. Some of them used to scare me so I couldn't sleep. I also remember the show.

I didn't realize people where still into them. When I was a kid, we fight over them in the library and people would steal my own personal copies from my desk (Thinking back, it's was kind of neat, kids actually STOLE books from one another. Don't do that much theses days). Enjoy your books!

Wow! The Girl got a great deal on all those books. :)

You got some wonderful books as well.

Here's my Mailbox! ~ Wendi

Serena: Remember how I said I think we're addicted to reading AND collecting? LOL I'll probably go. Hubby said he'd force me to.

Blodeuedd: It's different than the other P&P sequels, so I thought I'd give it a try.

Avisannschild: Nope. I wish I could participate, but I must get things ready for my upcoming camping trip.

Mary: Not sure when I'll get to that one, but I'll definitely post a review when I do.

Missy: I haven't read Dekker in a while, but I remember liking the few I've read by him. And I'm always on the lookout for Holocaust stories.

Staci: It was nice passing on all my R.L. Stine books from jr. high on to someone who actually enjoys them!

Rebecca: I've stopped counting. Just keep reading, I tell myself. Hubby doesn't say no more books, but I bet he's thinking it.

Bermudaonion: Sounds like me! I keep my review books separate and I nearly had a heart attack after the bookshelf collapsed and hubby mixed all the books together! LOL

Bookfool: Of course! ;)

Nicole: It's good to know I'm not alone!

Lilly: Library sales rock! Yup, she loves Goosebumps. The books and the shows. She actually wishes they were scarier. She takes after her father on that front.

Jules: I had a few when I was younger. I didn't realize there were new ones until I got the latest one signed for my daughter at BEA. I think I would have been traumatized if someone stole my books. LOL

Wendi: Can't beat a library sale!

Alyce: My library always has a handful of books for sale, but there's never anything good. That's why I have to go to Serena's library for the big sales. Can't wait to see what you pick up at yours!

Gautami: That'd be an expensive trip, but you're welcome to stop by anytime. My husband would be grateful! LOL
