We Interrupt the Scheduled Programming...

If I'm missing in action today, it's because I'm nursing my husband. He was stung by two bees yesterday (one sting on each ankle) when he was mowing the lawn at work. He disturbed a hive that was on the ground. He was stung last week, too, but he didn't find the hive until yesterday. I was worried about the sting last week because when he was a teenager, he was hospitalized for an allergic reaction to bee stings. But he didn't experience any breathing difficulties and had nothing but a red mark from the sting.

Not so with yesterday's stings. He didn't have any breathing issues, no tight throat and no wheezing. But his ankles were a bit swollen, and when he got out of the shower, he was shivering uncontrollably. He warmed up and was fine, and I told him that maybe we should call the doctor or go to the hospital, but he wasn't keen on that idea and argued with me about it. He did appear to be fine, so I let it go. (He slept in the recliner all night, and I didn't make him come upstairs. I did call down to him several times during the night to make sure he was still alive...did I mention I have some anxiety issues??)

Well, this morning as I was getting ready for work, he told me to come look at his ankle. It was burning hot, looked like the ankle of a hugely pregnant woman who has been on her feet all day, he could barely walk, and he was in a lot of pain. He figured he could call the doctor later in the morning and be seen this afternoon. I put my foot down, made him call the after-hours number, and the on-call doctor said he needed to go to the ER.

So we were out the door at 5:30 am, and I'm happy that I thought to make The Girl pack a backpack with things to keep her occupied, threw some cereal in a plastic container, grabbed a juice box for her, and managed to remember my book.

At least it wasn't too crowded, and we were back home by 8 am. Hubby's drugged up with feet elevated in the recliner, and I'm working from home today. After I finish, I have to get his prescriptions filled and pick up some worker's comp papers from his work. He's out of work, and I'm his maid until Friday.

Thank God he's fine, and it wasn't more serious. However, the doctor says if he gets stung again it could be worse, so he'll have his Epi-Pen on him if he needs it.

I had planned to post a review here and an author interview on my Examiner site later today. We'll see how that goes.

Oh my gosh -- how scary! My son is allergic to loads of foods so we carry an epi-pen at all times. I'm glad it wasn't worse than it was!

I would have made him go last night, but you know my husband...he's worse than yours.

I'm glad he's ok. Thank goodness.

Yikes that's scary. Glad you got him to the hospital (finally). Hope he's better soon.

Oh no-that is scary. You have to be so careful with bee stings. I'm glad he's ok though. I carry an epi-pen for food allergies all the time - handy to have. I hope he starts feeling much better now.

That's so scary! I'm glad your husband is okay after all and that he's going to have his epi-pen with him in the future!

How scary. We just had this happen to us at camp. Kids ran over a yellow jacket nest and we were ran over by them. Thankfully I already knew my kids weren't allergic and now know I am not either. I hope your husband feels better soon.

That is very scary! Definitely keep that Epi Pen handy. I hope that he starts to feel better soon. It is so upsetting when your spouse is ill. Please tell him your "bloggy" friends are thinking of him and wishing him a speedy recovery.

((hugs))

Very scary! Glad the hubby is doing better. You don't mess around with bee stings. Good call on making him call the doctor ASAP!

Poor Eccentric-Hubby! That's the worst! I'm allergic to bee stings, as well. I once stepped on a dead bee stinger and the bottom of my foot swelled up to the size of a 1/2 grapefruit. So, I totally understand. It sucks! Thank goodness that he has such a good and loving wifie-poo!

Make sure you pamper him!

I am so glad everything is ok. I am grateful to bees for pollinating everything but geez they can cause a lot of trouble.

I'm really glad to hear he's okay. I got stung 3 weeks ago for the first time since I was a kid and it STILL itches, so I can't imagine being swollen!

Thanks everyone! Hubby was a bit embarrassed that I posted about his issue, but I told him he wasn't alone with the allergies. He's all better now, and that's a good thing because he's been taking care of me. It stinks being sick...especially during the summer!
