Anyway, it's time for another Mailbox Monday, the weekly meme hosted by Marcia from The Printed Page where book lovers share the titles they received for review, purchased or otherwise obtained during the last week. Here are the books that entered my house:
For review:
Roses by Leila Meacham (from Hachette)
Hitler's Rockets: The Story of the V-2s by Norman Longate (from Skyhorse Publishing)
From the office Christmas swap:
The Boys Are Back by Simon Carr
(I don't usually like movie tie-in covers, but I can make an exception if they feature Clive Owen.)
The Girl made out like a bandit at her school Christmas party. They had a book swap, and then the teacher gave them some bookish gifts. Here's what she brought home:
Old Yeller by Fred Gipson
(I thought I'd have to prepare her for the ending, but it seems she's already seen the movie in school.)
No Talking by Andrew Clements
The Dog Who Thought He Was Santa by Bill Wallace
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson
What books did you add to your shelves recently?

looks like you both did well. Can't wait to see what you think of Roses. That will help me decide if I want to read it.
Hope you are dug out!
Glad the snow missed us (for now).
I love The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.
The Girl definitely had a great week. We are almost done reading THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER before bedtimes. It's one of my all-time favorite holiday stories!
honestly, I don't think comment mod stops them! i just disabled anonymous comments and haven't had any spam so far. Such a nuisance! Anyway, sorry you had to do so much shovelling.
You had a great week. I read several reviews for Roses and it sounds good to me. Hope you enjoy it. I'll be looking forward to your review.
Looks like both of you had a good week! You know, it sounds great when you think of snow at Christmas, but I bet you never bargained for this! We are looking forward to snow in Indiana, but honestly, I am happy just watching it fall from under a warm blanky inside!
Glad you're enjoying the snow. I'm enjoying a snow day so I love it too!
The Dog Who Thought He Was Santa looks adorable!
Happy reading!
As long as The Girl was happy, snow is ok!
Some good books there!
Mondays: Musings/Mailbox/Whereabouts
We had our first snowstorm a couple of weeks ago...and I have to admit that I love to be snowed in! I am totally envious of Roses. Enjoy all of your new books!
Wonderful Mailbox Monday! Roses has a lovely cover. I look forward to your reviews.
Looks like you might have a White Christmas! :)
OLD YELLER was a favorite movie of mine growing up, and I recently considered the book for my nephew. I think we'll go with the movie version first -- I'm afraid the sadness of the book might put him off reading, and he's reluctant enough! He loves the Bill Wallace books, though (and so do I!). Enjoy!
You need to start getting some Vietnam War books now. You got a nice variety of books and The Girl scored tons of great ones.
I'm so glad we didn't get that much snow. Enjoy your books. I love the cover of Roses. We have The Dog Who Thought He Was Santa, but haven't read it yet.
I loved No Talking! I hope The Girl enjoys it too! :0)
I really like the new cover for Old Yeller...you have some great reads there..enjoy!!
I loved Old Yeller! Roses is one that I have been thinking of checking out for awhile now.
Nice stack of books! I haven't seen Hitler's Rockets before. Did you pick that one up because of the WWII reading challenge?
We didn't get hit with this storm but living near Buffalo, NY we have plenty! (Great reading weather!) All of your books look so very good. Love the covers for The Girl's new Christmas stories. They sound adorable! Enjoy and happy holidays!
Clive Owen -- YES! Haha. I'm with you on movie tie-in covers, but I had to get the version of Atonement with James McAvoy on the front. Delicious.
They all look good.
Oh never seen Old Yeller or read the book, but I do know the end :(
Looks like you had a good week!
Thanks for stopping by my blog as well!
