The Girl actually received more books than I did for Christmas, and she wants me to list those first. She also received a Barnes & Noble gift card, so she'll be going book shopping very soon.
From her Auntie Serena and Uncle Cris:
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, a Longman Fiction Simplified Edition for middle-grade readers, of which I could not find a picture....and....
From her godmother, who is a third-grade teacher and has given her books every year since she was born:
Shooting the Moon by Frances O'Roark Dowell, which she'll be reading for the Vietnam War challenge at War Through the Generations
Miss Spitfire: Reaching Helen Keller by Sarah Miller
Fairest by Gail Carson Levine
The Circle of Hanh: A Memoir by Bruce Weigl, which I'll be reading for the Vietnam War challenge at War Through the Generations
A purchase I couldn't pass up at just $2.97 (I know, I know, I was supposed to be buying for other people!):
The Devil's Arithmetic by Jane Yolen
A contest win from Savvy Verse & Wit:
City Above the Sea and Other Poems by Stephen Alan Saft
For review:
Crazy Aunt Purl's Home Is Where the Wine Is: Making the Most of What You've Got One Stitch (and Cocktail!) at a Time by Laurie Perry, from HCI Books for an upcoming TLC Book Tour
A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick, unrequested from Algonquin Books
The Book of Fathers by Miklos Vamos, from Blue Dot Literacy
What bookish gifts did Santa bring you, and/or what other books have you added to your shelves recently?

Boy Anna, you sure had a full mailbox. Enjoy your books!
I saw many interesting books that I would like to read in there. I hope they are as good as they look
Great list of books. I've had the Goolrick book on my shelf for ages and hope to read it in the coming year - 2010 is my year for reading my own books. I plan to read very few review copies.
That's quite an eclectic list for both you and your daughter. She might enjoy Devil's Arithmetic also.
Good list of books. Looks like The Girl has a book I want! Shooting the Moon! Maybe she'll let auntie borrow it!
Happy reading.
Lots of great books for you & The Girl! Happy Reading!
Such great books. I love Gail Carson Levine's books. I hope The Girl enjoys reading Fairest.
Can't wait to hear about the Crazy Aunt Purl book. I hear it has knitting patterns!!!
What a great week. I've had A Reliable Wife in my TBR piles for a while. I really need to get to it in 2010. Happy reading in the new year! Here's mine.
A great week! "Shooting the Moon" intrigues me, and I've been seeing the "Crazy Aunt Purl" read around the blogosphere. Sounds good!
My post is here:

Wow, what a great list of books. Have a great week and a most happy new year!
You and The Girl both made out like bandits! I've heard great things about Shooting the Moon - maybe I'll read that for the Vietnam War Challenge too. The Book of Fathers catches my eye as well.
You are going to LOVE...The Reliable Wife. I did a review for a historical magazine on this one. I think I posted the review on my blog. It is something else.
Also..THE GIRL got some really nice books.
Teaching library media...these are all popular in my school. Most of them I am familiar with. Tell her happy reading. Especially...THE FAIREST. :)
I love your list of books! It looks like The Girl needs her own blog! :--)
I will have to remember to ask you what the Girl is enjoying when I get stumped on what to get for my own girl as it seems they have similar taste and are of an age. I never manage to hit the jackpot for the kid for some reason. Happy reading this week!
I think this is the first year in my LIFE where I only received TWO books for Christmas! It's kind of almost horrifying.
I also got a copy of A Reliable Wife in the mail, unrequested. I read through it the other day and am now wondering exactly how I shall handle the review of it.
A Reliable Wife sounds like an interested, though dark, read. I might just check it out.
Happy Monday!
The Reliable Wife sounds good. You got quite a few books there that sound very good. Happy reading!
I think it will be a challenge for both you and The Girl to choose what you'll next read. Enjoy!
Looks like you both got some great books. Enjoy!
I want to read A Reliable Wife myself but what do you mean by "unrequested"? Did you request it and then change your mind? LOL.
It looks like you have quite a few serious reads....enjoy!
Yours is a lovely blog I'll be sure to call from time to time.
Every happiness in the new year.
Simone.
Great list of books! Enjoy!
I love that the Girl is so interested in books too! I'm really looking forward to your recommendations in the next year for the Vietnam war books challenge.
I like what The Girl and you received. Happy reading, Anna!
Mondays: Mailbox/Whereabouts
Wow, great list of books Anna. I hope you enjoy them!
I haven't read RL Stine since I was a tween and I used to LOVE those! I got a few gift cards for Christmas but I haven't spent them yet.
Wow! Looks like there are a couple there i may have to add to my wish-list! Let us know what your daughter thinks of Rebecca when she reads it, it is one of my all time favs! =D
Books for you and the Girl - how fun! I really want to read the Goolrick book. Sounds good and it's got a cool cover too.
Enjoy the loot!
I loved RL Stine! So much fun-- just pair it with Are You Afraid of the Dark and you've got a crazy cool late 80s/early 90s scare fest! :p
Isn't it kind of Santa to give us books? And our youngest son gave us gift cards for a local bookstore.
I received Winter Queen, Forgotten Man, Dead Beat and Red Chrysanthemum.
My favorite novels read this year are Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and Peace Like a River.
I got a few ideas for my TBR stacks from your list.
Thank you all for stopping by my mailbox.
