Read-a-Thon Hour 9: Update

Hour 9 of Dewey's Read-a-Thon just ended, and The Girl and I are having fun, despite not having read as much as we'd like at this point in the event.  We got some great books at the library sale this morning, which I'll include in my Mailbox Monday post, but let's just say that there was an entire box of R.L. Stine books and The Girl went a bit crazy.

The husbands went to play basketball, and The Girl napped for about 2 hours, so Serena and I had some quiet time to read.  We also managed to visit a few blogs here and there, and I plan to comment on some more later or at least read the wrap-up posts.  We've had some good snacks (cheese and rosemary/olive oil crackers plus root beer barrels) and when the orange chicken we heated up for lunch wasn't as good as we'd hoped (seriously, who puts lima beans in Chinese food?), the husbands bought Subway.  We're stuffed, so I have no idea where we're going to put the tortilla chips and guacamole dip I bought for later on, but at least it's there for when we get the munchies.

As for reading, The Girl is almost done with her first book:  Princess Katie and the Mixed-up Potion by Vivian French, which is book 8 in the Tiara Club at Silver Towers series.  She has less than 20 pages left.  I think the nap did her good.  Up next is The Prom Queen by R.L. Stine, or at least that's what she said an hour ago.

I also finished a book, Mr. Darcy Broke My Heart by Beth Patillo.  Yea for me!  However, I only read about 125 pages.  I started the book a couple of days ago, and I wanted to finish it before moving on to something  else.  Now I'm starting My Enemy's Cradle by Sara Young.

Now here's something I never expected:  My husband's been participating off and on.  He's reading Fool by Christopher Moore.  Apparently, it's very funny.  I'll find out soon enough because Serena chose it for our next book club pick.

I'll probably update a couple more times before the event is over.  (You're probably all groaning now, I know.  Ha-ha!)

I just started Lamb by Christopher Moore today. I really like his writing style so I think you might enjoy Fool.

looks like you are getting more done than me. I'm reading two books at once...which is quite normal for me.

Go, Anna, Go! I am not reading as much as I hope, but the night is still young! =)

Christopher Moore is a hilarious writer! I've read Fool and A Dirty Job. I really want to read You Suck next by him!

To be honest, I think I like less-frequent updates for Readathon... then I get to actually read them all instead of having to "Mark all as read" a few days after Readathon (due to time).

Lima beans in Chinese food? Yuck! I can't wait to see what you got at the library sale. I love those sales! I have My Enemy's Cradle in a pile here somewhere waiting to be read. It looked like a good read. Have fun and keep reading!

Thank you all for stopping by during the Read-a-Thon. My hubby is still plugging along in the Fool. My copy just came in at the library, so hopefully I'll know soon whether I find it as funny as he does.
