Dewey's Read-a-Thon: Hour 1 -- Introduction Meme

So The Girl and I are just getting ready to jump into our pile of books, but first we thought it would be fun to participate in the introduction meme. I don't think we'll be posting too much today, but we figured posting in Hour 1 would get us pumped up.

Here are the questions:

Where are you reading from today?

We're at home in the Baltimore, Md.-area. We're going to stretch out in our recliners, and since it's going to be in the 70s today, we'll probably bring some chairs outside and read there, too.

3 Facts About Us

Me: I like to take naps on the weekend so doing nothing but reading will be a challenge, I hate doing housework so anything that keeps me away from the dishes is awesome, and I love to read in complete silence so that fact that my husband is watching a loud movie right now isn't going to help. :)

The Girl: I'm happy to be staying up past my bedtime, I'm going to read more books than my mom, and I love dinosaurs and dogs.

How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours?

You can see our selections here. The Girl says she has 9 books that she wants to focus on and a pile of other books in case she needs a change of pace. I have 10, and we have 3 that we hope to read together. We don't expect to finish them all, but we like to have choices.

Do you have any goals for the Read-a-Thon?

The Girl says her goal is to read more books than me and stay up longer than me. (She'll probably do it, too.) I don't really have a goal in terms of books or pages read; I just want to spend a whole day reading and enjoy every minute of it.

Any advice for first-time Read-a-Thoners?

Nope, since this is our first time. We'd be thrilled to have the veterans' advice!

Good luck with your reading. I'll be cheering all you readers on today, and I'm finding that this is a great way to discover new-to-me blogs!! So cute that you two are doing this together :-)

Thanks for the encouragement everyone! We have one book down, though it's one we started a while ago. On to another book...

My husband is still in bed, so it is nice and quiet, but I'm hoping he isn't planning to watch any movies today--I need quiet too! It's so fun that you and your daughter are doing this together!

Nothing but reading is a challenge for me, too. I usually get bored after an hour or so during the weekends. Weird, huh?

My advice is to get into a rhythm or routine. And of course have fun!!

Bybee said...

Hooray for a mother-daughter team. My money is on The Girl. Only advice I have is take a stretch break often and drink plenty of water.

How great to be reading together! It drives my husband nuts that I can read a book and watch TV and know what is going on in both! He needs complete silence.

Anna said...

Laura--Once I get off the computer in a sec, I'll have to read upstairs. It really doesn't help that he's watching war movies. But he's not complaining about the all-day reading, so I guess I shouldn't complain either.

Trish--My problem is I'm easily distracted. Which is why a 5-minute blogging break has turned into 15. LOL

Bybee--I have no doubt she'll surpass me. At least she's having fun. :)

Lexi said...

Aw, I wanna do a co-blog. Maybe next year the Fiance' (well, he'll be the Husband then) will be able to read and blog with me.

You guys have fun!

Anna said...

Nise--Sometimes I can do that, it depends. Normally, I get involved in his movies and the book is tossed aside. lol

Anna said...

Hi Lexi! Thanks for stopping by. The Girl would take over the blog if she could. She wants her own blog, but I told her 8 is a bit young for that. I hope you and your man get a chance to read and blog together. If I could get my husband to pick up a book now and then it would be a miracle!

Ti said...

So glad you guys could do this together. Makes it that much more fun and a little friendly competition doesn't hurt either.

Anna, I'm so glad you have a reading partner! I will in October, but she'll only be 2 months old. hehe

From reading your introduction meme, I realize that I completely misconstrued the first question. Oh well...

I love the picture of 'the girl' on the sidebar of your blog. It is that kind of enthusiasm that we all try to keep fueled in our lives, and reading certainly makes that much, much easier! I laughed at her excitement over being able to stay up late and her confident, and most likely accurate, statement that she will read more books. Kids have all the energy!!!

I hope both of you have a magical time today!
